What could Story for Steven mean?

Like the best episodes, Story for Steven showed us some stuff, and while this filled in some gaps in our knowledge it revealed more gaps that we didn’t even know were there. It’s the kind of backstory reveal that we love, because it let’s us start wondering.

What we learned from Story for Steven

It’s been a brief dry spell for lore episodes, but Story for Steven has turned that around. What did we learn from it? Other than Greg Good, Marty Bad? Still a good amount. (Flashback episodes do have that power!) Just sit back and see what we’ve learned.

Preview for Shirt Club

Oh yeah, give us five! It’s Shirt Club time. Who’s ready to spend some time with Buck Dewey? Garnet’s long-lost son (who, despite being lost for a really long time, was living in the same town the entire time). Is it t-shirt time where you are?

Jeff Liu posts: Rose’s theme (acoustic)

It’s been a while since we had a music post, but Jeff Liu is willing to provide! This acoustic version of Rose’s theme (0:29) plays at the end of Story for Steven. Give it a listen!

Immediate reaction to Story for Steven

mruniverse2Alright, we give up. If this isn’t the episode with Rose’s song in it then we just don’t know how we’re ever going to predict it. They had such a perfect opportunity for a duet but they didn’t take it. Oh well. On the bright side, this means that they were recording for season two back in October. (Well, either that or she somehow sings in Shirt Club, but… Well, we’re not sure even Ronaldo would predict that one.)

It was great to see the temple with a fence around it, and without Steven’s room built up around it (we got a peek at it in Lion 3: Straight to Video but we got to get really close in Story for Steven). Also, the outfits.

There was a lot of subtle stuff about how the Crystal Gems interacted with humans (or, more accurately, how they didn’t) that was gold, and Amethyst’s much younger apparent age will no doubt provide fuel for speculation.

What to expect from Story for Steven

mruniverseFeels. You should expect feels from Story for Steven. There’s no way such an exuberant song can be paired up with such an empty concert and there not be feels. Still, we know that Greg finally got the life in the stars he said he was living, so at least it ends on a bright note.

Also, this episode has a high degree of likelihood for being the episode we get to hear Rose Quartz sing in. Who’s hyped for that? We know we are.

New episode: Shirt Club will air on April 16, 2015

And one week after Story for Steven we’ll be getting the last episode produced with season oneShirt Club. When you hear about a low-key episode like this you should duck for cover and start wondering just how this episode could get serious. Even if they don’t hit us hard with a feels train in Shirt Club, it will be interesting to see how magic seeps into the episode.
